Warriors to Lourdes

Apply

Eligibility

To be eligible for this pilgrimage, non-wounded, wounded, ill or injured military personnel applicants must be either serving on active duty or recently separated (post-9/11 era) from the United States Armed Forces. Applicants should be spiritually motivated to participate as a pilgrim.

Since military personnel, companions, designated caregivers and volunteers will all lodge in a hotel, the wounded, disabled or sick warriors must be able to perform all “activities of daily living” either alone or with the assistance of their designated caregiver. Applicants and their clinical providers should not anticipate that professional medical or nursing services, including hospitalization, will be delivered during the pilgrimage.

Applications will be reviewed by our pilgrimage leadership team and pilgrimage medical director. Applicants may be contacted by pilgrimage staff with additional questions. All applicants will be notified of decisions regarding their application and that of their companions and/or designated caregivers beginning February 15, 2018.

Cost

All expenses for approved non-wounded, wounded, ill or injured military personnel and their designated caregivers will be covered by Knights of Columbus Charities, Inc.

The AMS-K of C package rate for companions and volunteers traveling from the United States to Lourdes is $2600 for a double occupancy room and $2900 for a single occupancy room. Companions may be offered needs-based financial assistance on a case-by-case basis.

All US-based packages include a round-trip flight from Atlanta; Houston; New York; Los Angeles; Raleigh-Durham; Seattle or Washington, D.C. as well as lodging, meals and Pèlerinage Militaire International (PMI) credentials. The Knights of Columbus will book round-trip flights from the nearest local airport to the seven departure cities for all pilgrims outside those areas. Please note that, barring exceptions, pilgrims are responsible for their own transportation to their respective airport and all associated costs, ie. parking.

The AMS-K of C package rate for companions and volunteers traveling from Germany to Lourdes is $600 for a double occupancy room and $800 for a single occupancy room. This includes a round-trip bus ride from Kaiserslautern, Germany, to Lourdes, as well as lodging, meals and PMI credentials.

Application Deadline

All applications and payments in full (if applicable) are due by Jan. 15, 2018.

A designated caregiver must be in good health, capable of sitting and/or standing in place for extended periods, capable of walking long distances (up and down stairs, hills and on uneven surfaces) and cannot have physical limitations that will prevent them from properly assisting the pilgrim.

Please note: VA certification or an endorsement by a chaplain or physician is required to confirm designated caregiver status.
